The primary objectives of the position are to undertake high quality teaching and research across the education field; complete associated administrative tasks in a timely and competent manner and to generally serve the interests of the University.
The MEd with a Certificate in Counselling forms the basis of the Counsellor Education programme at the University of Canterbury. The degree comprises 8 post graduate papers, three of which are based on social constructionist solution-focused brief therapy.
The programme is time-intensive requiring staff to maintain a high teaching load, to visit and supervise students who are on counselling placements and to liaise with the counselling community.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach into all counselling papers, maintain an active programme of research and publication and assist with some administrative tasks related to counsellor education.
Opportunities for post graduate research supervision and teaching into other areas of interest may include psychometric tests, mental health, career development and/or school guidance.
We welcome applications from suitably qualified applicants particularly those with strengths and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
PhD preferred, but would consider Masters level degree with strong commitment to completing a PhD or Equivalent degree in a subject area relevant to counselling.
Capacity to supervise Masters and PhD Research
Published in peer reviewed journals
Strong social constructionist approach to counselling
Experience of counselling practice preferred
Evidence of bi-cultural learning and/or experience that demonstrates an understanding of Treaty of Waitangi
