The School of Biological Sciences is inviting applications from individuals with training in experimental molecular genetics/functional genomics to take up the position of Lecturer in Genetics.
The School of Biological Sciences is inviting applications from individuals with training in experimental molecular genetics/functional genomics to take up the position of Lecturer in Genetics.
It is expected that the successful applicant will establish an active, externally funded research program, help to advance research linkages with Crown Research Institutes and other industry or non-governmental organisations, and participate in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching in genetics. Preference may be given to an applicant whose research is at the nexus between human health and the environment.
Applicants should have a PhD or an appropriate equivalent qualification in genetics, molecular biology or functional genomics; an ability to deliver high quality teaching in genetics and in courses of their organismal speciality, and a commitment to research in an area of biodiversity, biosecurity and/or biotechnology consistent with the School of Biological Sciences’ Strategic Plan.
The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate potential for academic excellence in their teaching and research; be able to conduct innovative and effective lectures and laboratory classes from first year through to postgraduate level; publish their research at the highest level as assessed by peer-reviewed publications, generate external research funding and successfully supervise postgraduate students.
The School of Biological Sciences has a high national and international profile and has an excellent teaching and research infrastructure. A new dedicated six-storey building is currently being constructed for the School. The University also maintains many high standard field stations throughout the South Island for teaching and research.
