Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering (A271-08E)

Applicants are invited for a full-time continuing (tenured) academic position in Geotechnical Engineering within the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury.

The appointment will be made at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, commensurate with experience.

As a member of the Department, the appointee will have the opportunity to participate in, develop and lead research in geotechnical engineering, to teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise Masters and Ph.D. students. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to departmental activities and to collaborate with others within and external to the University.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic geomechanics group within a highly productive Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline and have a strong research capability or record and a commitment to teaching excellence. Candidates with research and teaching interests in any geotechnical engineering area such as foundation engineering, soil-structure interaction, seismic geotechnical engineering, environmental geotechnics or geosynthetics are welcome to apply. The appointee will be expected to establish a strong analytical, field-based and/or experimental research programme and to develop links with the profession.

The geomechanics group has a modern and well-equipped geotechnical laboratory, CPT truck facility, extensive commercial and in-house numerical modeling software and access to first-class technical support for lab testing and physical modelling including shake-table capabilities. The University maintains excellent computer and library facilities and has a strong commitment to top-level research.
