I first visited New Zealand in March 2005 with my family from Ireland. We were very impressed with the country, its climate, people and values. To my wife Nuala and myself, New Zealand seemed like a safer place to raise our two boys, and it also offered quality education and excellent sporting opportunities. We hadn’t seriously considered such a move until I met The National Bank team at the Opportunities New Zealand Expo and talked to them about banking services and job opportunities at the bank. From a career point of view the opportunity to take on new challenges and experience new cultures and business systems was a powerful incentive.
Making the move
The National Bank granted us a generous timeline with starting work. One of the best things we did was to open a bank account before we arrived. That meant we could forward the funds required to get set up on our arrival. The National Bank’s New Resident Service was outstanding. When we arrived, cheque books and debit cards were ready and waiting for us. This is a wonderful service and to have so much completed in advance allowed us to ‘hit the ground running’ when we arrived. Our experiences have so far lived up to, and in many respects exceeded, our expectations. I have personally found the diversity of New Zealand exhilarating, with such a cross section of races and cultures. As a family, we are all enjoying the great opportunities New Zealand has to offer.
